Code Review Is Not an Authority Boundary

The article argues that code review should be seen less as a gatekeeper and more as a negotiation of capabilities. When a piece of code is merged, the execution environment can enforce fine‑grained permissions—specific directories, sockets, or operations—rather than assuming the code will behave. This capability‑based model mirrors the principle of least privilege and helps mitigate the risk of automatically generated or agent‑written functions that might otherwise run with broad access. By shifting the focus from “who can approve” to “what the code is allowed to do,” teams can maintain tighter security while still benefiting from rapid code generation.
